Full Moon went through a near complete restoration in 2018-2019. It is now certified for 40 passengers operating out of North Cove in Manhattan.
The entire vessel was gutted on the interior. The hull was wooded down, all paint removed and dried for a period of time. All soft planking was removed. A heavy veneer of Port Orford cedar was laminated over the hull using epoxy resins then a 1/16 layer of 0-90 fiberglass/epoxied over. This is the same technique that was used over 25 years ago on Rum Runner a vessel that has been in service ever since without hull repairs. This technique allows the vessel to be maintained in the same manner as a fiberglass hull.
The original 671 Detroit Diesels were replaced with John Deere 4045 tier 3 diesel engines rated at 235 hp slightly more than the original engines. The 27’ of shafting was interrupted with a thrust bearing at 19’ then completed with a cardan bearing and tube shafts.
